Coloured Diamonds
Fancy coloured diamonds are the latest trend in today’s world of designer jewellery.
The availability of different colours is quite something. There are a few important facts to be considered when buying a fancy coloured diamond for your loved one or for yourself. It is critical to know the basic differences between naturally formed coloured diamonds and ones that are man-made.
Natural fancy coloured diamonds are rarer and hence more expensive. There are different ways in which coloured diamonds are formed by nature. For example, nitrogen can cause a diamond to have yellow or orange hues while boron can make it turn blue and with more pressure it can create a red, pink or purple hue. Natural radiation deep in the earth creates diamonds with colours of green or blue. Red, purple and green coloured diamonds are considered very rare.
There are methods to artificially change the colour of a diamond either with the application of thin films, coatings or through the combined application of high temperature and high pressure.
In today’s market jewellery designers are using fancy coloured diamonds to create different beautiful and unique designs.
