Cut is the key factor in choosing and rating a diamond

When jewellers are asked to judge the quality of any cut diamond, they usually treat its ‘cut’ as the most vital parameter.
The way a diamond is or has been cut primarily depends on the following factors:

1.    Original shape of the rough stone
2.    Location of the inclusions & flaws to be eliminated
3.    Preservation of the weight
4.    Popularity of certain shapes

Do not confuse a diamond’s ‘cut’ with its ‘shape’. The later only denotes the diamond’s outward appearance.

There are certain criteria that help a diamond jeweller judge its quality. When a diamond has a high quality ‘cut’, light happens to enter through the table and travel toward the pavilion; it then reflects from one side to the other before it bounces back off the diamond’s table toward the viewer’s eye. That’s not the case with the ‘Shallow Cut’ & ‘Deep Cut’.
