Vintage and antique jewellery
There is a thin line differentiating vintage and antique jewellery. Generally, jewellery which is 30-50 years old is considered vintage and jewellery over 50 years is said to be antique. Recently, a new category called estate jewellery has come up meaning jewellery belonging to somebody who died within living memory.
Those interested have many periods to choose from like the Georgian jewellery made during the reigns of George I to George IV, Victorian jewellery made during Queen Victoria’s reign, Edwardian jewellery from King Edward VII’s reign, Retro jewellery influenced by Hollywood, etc. The value of antique jewellery usually increases with time. Before purchasing, the buyer should check the authenticity of the jewellery.
Buyers should be careful while buying antique diamond rings. They should never be bought at fairs, auctions and flea markets. Buying from reputed jewellers is always safer.
True antiques have high quality, hand cut diamonds which display the skill of the craftsmen.
